It has been announced today that Intel will be releasing a new range of Enterprise Class Xeon processors based on the new Skylake-SP processor architecture. Four new classifications of processors will be introduced to denote the performance of the processor. These are the Intel Xeon Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze classification levels.
Intel Had This To Say About Their Upcoming CPU’s
The Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable family is the new foundation for secure, agile, multi-cloud data centers. It represents the biggest platform advancements in this decade. The processor family is architected for exceptional workload-optimized performance and hardware-enhanced security. Designed for trusted data service delivery, the processor family is fuelled by significant leaps in I/O, memory, storage and network technologies.
Sampling today, and with broad availability in mid-2017, the Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable family has the design flexibility to thrive across common applications and mission critical operations or to harness actionable insights from advanced real-time analytics and emerging imperatives like artificial intelligence. This agility enables customers to seize new business opportunities from our increasingly data-fueled smart and connected world.
New Features
Performance Optimisation:- Intel are introducing new technologies in their Intel Xeon Products such as Intel® Advanced Vector Extension 512 also known as Intel® AVX-512 to increase performance and throughput. This will lead to faster turnaround times in advanced analytics, High Performance Computing tasks and data compression workflows.
Accelerate Critical Workloads:- Much faster data compression and cryptography due to Intel’s integrated Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT).
Operate More Efficiently:- Intel are now offering high speed Ethernet controllers integrated directly on the Intel Xeon CPU’s (up to 4x10GbE). This negates the need for separate controllers which helps to reduce total system costs and lowers power consumption whilst reducing transfer latency and virtual machine migration times.
Improve Security:- No system can ever be 100% protected but Intel are trying to ease users concerns by deploying hardware-enhanced security. This technology looks to protect data and system operations without compromising performance.
