Workstation Specialists is the hardware brand of STRUMIS Ltd. We specialise in customising computer hardware around the requirements of software packages and end-user needs. This guide discusses optimising your Client and Server hardware configurations to ensure a smooth and highly optimised STRUMIS experience.
Recommended Hardware for a STRUMIS Server
STRUMIS is a Client/Server application. Configuring the right hardware for both is essential for maximising performance. The server hosts your centralised MSSQL database and must handle hundreds or thousands of database requests simultaneously.
STRUMIS runs on MSSQL, which benefits from high cores/threads and fast clock speeds. We recommend the Intel® Xeon® W-Series processors. Their high core counts, fast clock speeds, robust architecture, and support for Error-Correcting Code (ECC) memory make them ideal for critical server infrastructure, rated for 24/7 operation.
We advise configuring STRUMIS Servers with at least 16–32GB of memory for 11–25 users and 64GB+ for 25+ users. Memory usage depends on your specific setup and workflow. Our servers can reach very high memory capacities to meet your needs.
High-speed storage and fast IOPS are crucial for any optimised MSSQL database, and STRUMIS servers are no exception. We recommend a RAID 1 or RAID 10 enterprise-class NVMe SSD configuration for both performance and redundancy. Total storage capacity depends on user-specific requirements such as network storage, user base size, and whether documentation created by STRUMIS will be stored on the server.
Strong, high-bandwidth networking is essential. 1 Gbps network ports are suitable for most STRUMIS servers. For higher performance, 10 Gbps+ ports are available. Many server solutions include remote management via IPMI, making setup and maintenance easy for system administrators.
Recommended Hardware for a STRUMIS Client
STRUMIS is lightweight on the client side and can run on almost any computer hardware or tablet. For a STRUMIS Client, we recommend at least a quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and SSD storage.
If you want to leverage the BIMREVIEW model viewer or VISION Web service, adding a dedicated low- to mid-range NVIDIA GeForce graphics card will improve performance. This ensures smooth operation while using BIMREVIEW viewports and powering your displays.
